How great Thou art!
Imagine being on a hike in the mountains admiring the vast landscape, the immeasurable beauty of the scenery. In silence we admire God’s breathtaking creation.
Also compare the hike to our life journey. Those of us who have hiked know that at the start the path is full of promises and we are energy ready for the challenges ahead. But half way through, it gets hard and sometimes seemingly impossible. The vegetation, the rocks and other things seem to work against us…just like in real life.
But having reached the top and seeing the vastness of the landscape, we might even forget the troubles of the hike. In silence one can inhale the mountain smells and in awe we might proclaim, with the song, Oh Lord! “How great thou art!”
A little beyond that spot, we find a small spring of clear and pure water flowing from the heart of the mountain. The refreshing water heals our exhaustion and strengthens our spirit. Renewed by a rush of energy, we are ready to continue. Further ahead, we notice that the small spring has turned into a huge stream, cleaning and renewing the entire landscape.
How similar to our life journey! When we think that everything is impossible, when the world has a grip around our neck choking us, God’s river of graces, becomes evident.
Time, then, to stop, in order to thank God. Time to inhale His graces. Time to be healed from our exhaustion. Time to adore Him, that is, time to surrender our will to Him.
If you then allow your heart to see the surroundings, you will notice that the stream of graces that was poured into your suffering heart, has turned into a river of love that is cleaning and renewing you and cleaning and renewing everything around you. Then you will be able to proclaim again Oh my Lord! “How great Thou art!”
